The Will was an unsigned draft...

R’s husband sadly passed away in his late forties so it was a real shock to his widow and family. He left three young children with R and three older children from a previous relationship.

As the immediate grief passed R began the work of trying to sort out her late husband’s estate whilst caring for three children solo. Working with her financial advisor who set up the self-managed super fund (SMSF), the firm told her she would need to consult a solicitor independently regarding the super fund claim and the deceased estate.

R had no idea why they were two different things and everything was very confusing for her, she wasn’t sure who to trust. R got in touch with us for advice by phone. There was an unsigned copy of a Will amongst the papers. R’s husband had left funds in super and the title of the family home was in his name under mortgage.

We got to work straight away. Everything was done remotely and we made sure our calls were not in ‘mum rush hour’. Part of our service is finding out when suits you best to hear from us.

The three issues R needed our immediate help with:
• Changing the title of the family home into her name
• Legal advice regarding the claim on the super fund
• Drawing her own Will and securing her estate for her children

R has now resettled her family in a new home in the country and we hope to catch up with her on our next visit.
