Barb’s husband passed away with all the assets but no Will

Barb and Joe were both on the second marriages. They were enjoying life together in their senior years when Joe passed away unexpectedly. He had not made a Will and the house and bank account was in his name. Barb was steady in her seventies but needed some help navigating the estate. There were no children so she was the sole beneficiary under the intestacy rules. Barb got in touch with us and we gave her simple three step plan to moving forward.

The bank account had been frozen so Barb’s family lent her the funds to cover the legals which she later repaid. We then got started straight away with lodging the required preliminary notices to apply for Letters of Administration.

Letters of Administration is a Court sealed document authorising the proper person to receive and distribute assets in accordance with the law.

Barb was able to become the authorised Administrator in about half the time it takes with most firms due to our fast track model. We were then able to complete the paperwork required to transfer the house into her name.

If you find yourself in Barb’s shoes or have any questions about estates or your own Will, please call Caroline Cavanagh anytime for a complimentary chat on 0491 118 120.
