Grey nomad needs Probate

John and Marge (not their real names) had been looking forward to their retirement. The beaut new van was sitting in their driveway and John just could not wait to get her on the road. Marge’s father was fairly settled in the aged care village but she did feel that reluctance to leave , just in case he took a turn. Marge’s father encouraged them to go, ‘Don’t let me hold you back, you have to live every moment you get.” It was not easy balancing those two very important considerations for Marge and John.

They eventually decided to hit the road. The Territory had been on their bucket list for years and as March approached, the roads started to hum with the buzz of annual migration of little motorhomes west and north. John and Marge decided to join the throng!

Not longer after John and Marge had set out, Marge’s father took an unexpected turn and his time came. They returned home again to make the arrangements for the funeral and spend time with the family. Marge was the executor of the Will but the estate was very simple and only consisted of one bank account with ANZ. They decided to continue with their travels and Marge would finish off the paperwork on the road. She was quite adept at reading the documents and had a laptop on wifi so she thought she would be able to take care of things fairly easily.

Marge contacted the bank and submitted all the paperwork that they asked for. Then an email arrived, she would need to produce Probate of the Will. Marge decided to consult a lawyer as she wasn’t sure of the process involved with Probate.

It’s not always easy to find a lawyer when you are on the road so Marge got in touch with us. We started working on the preliminary requirements and drafting the documents. We arranged for Marge to sign the papers on the road, post them to us and we had Probate to hand within 5 weeks of her first call. Marge was able to do the rest herself with the bank.

It wasn’t long before John and Marge were back on the road and living every moment just as her father had wished.
